September’s Birthstone – Lapis Lazuli

Entering September, we are now 3 quarters of the way into the year with only a few months left to wrap up everything left to do on our 2018 goals list. September is the perfect time to pause for a bit of self reflection and honest evaluation of everything you’ve done so far this year, and what you have left to do. What other gemstone other than the richly coloured lapis lazuli then could be more appropriate for this mindful time of year.

With its deep blue hue accented by gold or sometimes white flecks, the Lapis Lazuli stone is one that symbolises honor, wisdom and truth. A historically prized gemstone in Egypt- a country which is home to some of the largest and oldest of Lapis Lazuli mining sites – Lapis Lazuli was often closely associated with royalty and a supernatural connection with the Gods. In fact, many ancient Egyptian Kings, Queens and High Priests have been found to be buried in tombs set with Lapis Lazuli or with ornaments made from the gemstone.

Wearing Lapis Lazuli is said to help enhance good and balanced decision-making skills, encourage honesty of spirit and promote deep and connected communication in relationships.

Being a stone of wisdom, Lapis Lazuli is also said to boost intellectual ability, learning and memory, thus making it an ideal stone to wear if studying for an important exam or learning a new skill.

Whether you’re a September baby looking for your birthstone or have just fallen in love with the enchantingly deep blue hue of this gorgeous gemstone, you should definitely check out our range of  stunning Lapis Lazuli gemstone pieces. Here are some of our favourite Lapis Lazuli pieces:

January’s Birthstone – Garnet

A new year is a time for new beginnings, the opening of a brand new chapter in the story. It seems then oh so fitting that our birthstone for the month of January is the intensely blood red gemstone, garnet. Said to represent the primordial fire from which the creation of the universe was born out of chaos, we could not think of a more positive stone to kickstart the new year with.

The sultry shade of red found in this beautiful gemstone always reminds me of the colour of lipstick worn by the femme fatales in noir detective films and for good reason as garnet is said to be stone of great energy, intimacy, love and passion. So if you’re looking for love in the new year, be sure to slip on that garnet ring on your nights out to give you that extra boost of romantic confidence!

The confidence and passion boosting properties of Garnet however are not only limited to the realm of romance, but is great for pushing you forward and giving you that extra drive in your work life. If you’ve got big goals set for your career in the coming year, Garnet is definitely the stone to get you up and going on them! We’ll certainly be wearing our fair share of garnet this month as we start moving on our big 2019 plans and we look forward to having you join us every step of the way. Happy New Year!

August Birthstone – Peridot

Do you remember those fresh, crisp mornings? The kind that you wake up to and it feels like the air itself is energetic and alive around you. You close your eyes as you breathe it in, and as you do you picture the most bright and invigorating shade of green – the colour of this month’s amazing birthstone, Peridot.

Although the word ‘Peridot’ comes from the French word peritot, meaning gold, Peridot is actually much better known for it’s origins and symbolism in Egypt. Known as “the gem of the sun.” to ancient Egyptians, this beautiful olive-green stone was mined for over 3,500 years on Zagarbad Island in Egypt. In the 19th Century, the mines on Zabargad Island produced millions of dollars worth of peridot but reached a peak in 1905 and by today the island has all but completely exhausted their resources of the precious stone.

Throughout history, there have been many legends that state the strong magical power that peridot possesses. Legend says that if the gem is set in gold, it will develop its full potential as a talisman and will have the power to dispel terrors of the night- fears and bad dreams. However, according to Pliny The Elder, the Great Roman authority on such matters, for peridots to work their strongest magic, they must be worn on the right arm. One of my favourite mythic properties of peridot is that it is said to help boost the wearer’s self esteem by enabling them to see the light within themselves and to help them recognise that they are deserving of love, I think every once in a while we all need that little reminder sometimes.

So no matter whether you’re a person with a passion for bright, lively colours, a collector of historic talismans or someone who just needs a little magic to help them see the best in themselves, Peridot could be the stone for you! Here  are some of our favourite pieces featuring this beautiful August birthstone:

April’s Birthstone – Clear Quartz

Ah at last, spring is finally begin to properly creep in; the sun peeps bashfully through the clouds, not so much that you could start working on your tan but just enough to catch the sparkle on that beautiful clear quartz Juvi ring of yours.

Clear quartz in itself is a remarkable gemstone and has been regarded highly by cultures all over the world. In ancient Japanese mythology for instance, clear quartz was believed to have been created by the breath of a white dragon and signified perfection. Regarded by many as the ‘Universal Crystal’ for its incredible usefulness and the fact that all colours of the light spectrum can be contained within it, clear quartz is truly unique in its depth and beauty. Among the many uses of clear quartz is the use of clear quartz gemstones in connecting the spirit to the divine, facilitating healing and bringing strength and clarity to a troubled mind.

Featured Gemstone – Green Amethyst

August is already upon us, and the featured gemstone this month is green amethyst, or prasiolite as it is sometimes referred to. The word prasiolite comes from the Greek meaning leek-green. Green amethyst is pale (or leek) green in colour and is formed by applying intense heat (about 150 degrees Celsius) to purple amethyst. The heat reacts with the stone, causing it to change colour. Green amethyst has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. The Mohs scale is used to measure the scratch resistance of various minerals. Considering iron has a hardness of 5 on the Mohs scale, a green amethyst piece of jewellery is very long lasting!

Green amethyst is known to bring prosperity to the wearer’s life, and is also a symbol of good luck and fortune. They are also known for balancing emotions, and they help keep you grounded.

Featured Gemstone – Ruby

It’s the middle of the summer, bees hover lazily over flowers in full bloom and beautiful golden rays of sun hold everything in a comfortingly cozy embrace. Is it any wonder then that the warm and vibrant Ruby is the birthstone for July?

Rubies, clearly identified by their rich red hue are known to be powerful talismans and symbols of passion, protection, prosperity and vitality. This fiery gemstone has been known to be great for enhancing the wearer’s focus and motivation, and is also categorized as a base or root chakra stone which energizes the wearer by increasing their life-energy (Chi).

This eye-catching gemstone has symbolic roots in several areas of the world, particularly in a number of Asian countries. For instance, in India the ruby is very highly regarded and is known as ‘king of the gemstones’ and ceremonial offerings of rubies to the Hindu gods were said to bring great blessings upon the offerer. Rubies can also be found in regions such as Thailand, Myanmar and Burma.

The ruby being the gemstone of passion and love has definitely captured our hearts and here are some of our favourite ruby Juvi pieces.

Colour Your World

Its summer time ladies! Here at Juvi, we’re massive fans of colours and nothing says summer-lovin’ quite like adding a playful splash of colour to your wardrobe. It can be great fun mixing and matching various colours in your outfit with your accessories, but sometimes it could seem like a fairly arcane art. Thankfully, there are some generally fool-proof guidelines when it comes to colour coordinating outfits and accessories to keep you looking your best.

Like a master chef uses his knowledge of basic flavours to concoct a mouth-watering meal, a savvy outfit coordinator uses their knowledge of basic colours to pair their accessories with their outfits. Firstly, determine the dominant colour of your outfit and locate it on the colour wheel. The colour exactly opposite the dominant colour of your outfit in the colour wheel is the most complimentary colour for your accessories to be.

Colour Wheel

For instance, our ruby Egadi pendant and ring look great with this green frilled belt dress from Mango.
